Different relief solutions for sciatica
For too many years, Sciatica has been a part of my life.
I find it hard to do simple things that a young person should be capable of doing, people ask me if I play sports, assuming that I'm athletic and I just laugh it off and answer “no”, because they don't know half of what I go through on a daily basis.
Then they're like “why don't you play sports?”, I have to explain to them that my health issues doesn't allow me to do anything strenuous. It's a whole conversation about what exactly do you have? Then when you say the word “Sciatica”, most of the time, they have no idea what it is and they hit you with the “Oh, I'm sorry to hear that” or some of them just look at you crazy altogether, not understanding a word you just said. Well, that is my everyday life.
The pain can vary between 1 and 100 and to be honest, sometimes to the point where you can't even walk and to talk of the days when you trip on nothing and your entire limb gives away unexpectedly and you just fall to the ground as if you're instantly paralyzed.
I feel this sharp shooting pain going up from my left butt cheek to the nerve in my back, all the way back down to my leg and WHEW, did I mention it's painful?
You feel like your leg could eventually just get tired one day and just fall off, imagine if it wasn't for your other organs.
Am I exaggerating this? Hell no! That's exactly what it feels like.
Cold days are the worst because my pinched nerve begins throbbing for no reason.
The thing is; you can feel every bit of it and don't say that you're about to walk a mile or run a marathon, unless, you want to die of stress or how people just cap out because of the excruciating pain it brings.
What I tend to do is simple, I minimize my steps to the best of my ability, I use BIOFREEZE on my bad days and massage it through the area, cover it all up and I get in the best comfortable position, mostly on my side and keep a pillow between my legs, I try to forget about the pain with a movie on and I have my comfort snacks with me and I thank The Most High that I am still alive to feel pain at this point, my pain tolerance is very high, I can take a lot due to how much I have experienced.
People always ask me, “you're so young, how come you are going through something like this?” and I say, “I honestly wasn't the one that choose this”. These are the cards that I have to deal with and so I must deal with them, if it were up to me, I would be healthy as a horse, doing and being anything I wanted to be, but unfortunately, that's not the case and frankly speaking, it doesn't matter your age or nation, illness does not discriminate.
I have had a lot of back issues as a child, I fell and hit my back so many times, all mistakes by the way, just playing and ramping with my siblings, no big deal I thought, but little did I know, it would come back to haunt me literally in my early twenties.
I have gone through many things; slips, shifts and actual falls, you name it! I did that.
But the truth is all of those things contribute to the pain I feel today.
So, my best advice would be the following;
1) Be extra careful where and how you walk so that you don't slip and or fall in the future.
2) Don't practice lifting heavy things and if you are, practice having the right posture to do so.
3) Make sure that you don't do lots of strenuous activities all at once, you need to really space out your activities where you can take much needed breaks to recuperate.
4) Practice learning what your body can take and what it can't, then take precautions around how it will feel in order to stay away from those long term effects of Sciatica or worse case scenarios.
If it were up to me, no one would have any pain, we would all walk around happy and stress free, not having to worry about taking side effect killer medications and feeding ourselves with toxins trying to numb the pain because, it would all be gone.
So let's make sure we follow the necessary precautions in order to keep our bodies for as long as we can, please do those practices I mentioned above to achieve the best results when it comes to Sciatica and you will see the pain reducing considerably.
I encourage you to think about things you can add to this Sciatica routine and incorporate them everyday so that we all can live better lives for our bodies.
